How are our Educators different

Our IMP Educators are well-versed in their respective disciplines and teach their subjects in a way that enhances understanding and long term retention, allowing students to make sense of the world around them. We believe in equipping our students with the power to be flexible in dealing with a variety of situations and problems in our rapidly changing modern society.

Rayner Tay

Subjects: Mathematics and Business Management

Graduating with a degree in NUS Business Administration (Business Analytics and Finance) and an alumnus of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Rayner has inspired learning in students for over 5 years. He explains ideas and concepts in a relatable manner that draws from real life experiences to help students build up their fundamentals. He believes that making learning interesting and enjoyable is the key to helping students understand and retain information. He studies extensively into how students learn in order to help students pick up the most effective methods of studying and learning. 

 

Timothy Ho

Subjects: English Language & Literature, History

Timothy graduated from NUS with a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours).

Timothy has been coaching and guiding students as a tutor for 2 years. His teaching method is to make it straightforward for students to learn. Not only are his students trained to identify key points while forming their answers, they will also be encouraged to think deeper and bring their analytical abilities to bear on the topic at hand.

He personally adopts a “questioning style” in teaching to enable the best form of learning in students. By posing these questions in a guided and graduated style, he motivates students to form arguments in a logical fashion, enabling them to create independent responses. This maximises their learning outcomes and based on students’ feedback, they became more engaged, curious and reflective about the subject content.

Rae Woon

Subjects: Geography and Biology

Rae is a graduate from the School of The Arts (SOTA) Singapore, specializing in Film. She is currently studying Social Sciences and Business Management in Singapore Management University (SMU) under the Global Impact Scholarship. She focuses on cultivating a genuine passion and interest in the disciplines of Geography, Biology and Theory of Knowledge, giving her students an edge over others in school and beyond.

Jane Ee

Subject: Biology

Jane is currently a medicine student at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. She graduated from SJI and has a great passion for Biology. She focuses on helping students realise the real-world connections in the concepts they learn to allow them to better retain new knowledge. She also helps students understand difficult concepts through simple visualisations and explanations, preparing them well for the rigour of the IB Programme. Jane is an approachable tutor that would constantly encourage her students to strive for greater heights.

Lim Ching Ying

Subject: Chinese

Ching Ying graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with double degree in Accountancy and Business. She is an alumni of Nanyang Girls’ High School and Hwa Chong Junior College where she graduated with 6 distinctions. She specialises in teaching Chinese where she helps her students to build up their skills in comprehension and writing. Her teaching style lies in quickly identifying and helping students to overcome their weaknesses. Her focus lies in helping students understand what they are learning instead of pure memorisation by utilising the background stories or fun facts to arouse students’ interests.

 

Jaidev Seghal

Subjects: Economics, Geography and Physics

Jaidev Seghal graduated from SJI International and specializes in tutoring Geography and Economics. He mentors students from SJI International not only to improve their grades, but also to instill academic techniques that are useful for future studies. He believes in teaching students through the use of simple models and visuals, allowing them to better retain knowledge. Apart from visualisation techniques, Jaidev also uses real life examples to further showcase how theory is being applied.

 

Celine Cheow

Subject: Chemistry

Celine graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in NUS Pharmacy. She is also an alumnus from NUS High School of Math and Science. She hopes to impart her knowledge in Chemistry, a subject that she is deeply passionate about. By integrating concepts from various fields and complementing it with her own clinical experience, Celine is able to help students apply theoretical knowledge into practice. She focuses on helping students understand complex ideas by breaking them down into simple and easy to comprehend concepts for effective learning.

 

Taila Thia Nawaz

Subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Business Management

Taila graduated from SJI International and she specializes in teaching Business and the Sciences. She will be deepening her knowledge in both fields by pursuing a unique blend of Science and Management courses in University. Equipped with 2 years of tutoring experience and in-depth knowledge of syllabus material and exam techniques, she ignites intellectual curiosity and inspires love for learning within students.

 

Ean Tan

Subjects: Economics

Ean is a current undergraduate at the Yong Pung How School of Law at SMU and an alumnus of Anglo Chinese school (Independent). He is an experienced IB economics tutor and has taught both international and local students, boasting a strong track record for IB economics at both HL and SL.

Ean’s expertise lies in teaching students the most efficient method to score in the examinations. With his experience in teaching students from all around the world, including London, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok and even the United States, he is able to identify the students’ weakness and formulate solutions to help his students improve.

Passionate and inspiring, Ean is a tutor who hopes to be able to invigorate students with the same passion that he has for economics.

 

Chua Wei Rong

Subjects: Chinese B SL

Wei Rong is currently a law student at SMU Yong Pung How School of Law. He is an alumni of Hwa Chong Institution where he was part of the first batch of Junior College students to be offered H2 Translation as an A Level subject. A firm believer in bilingualism, Wei Rong takes a unique approach to improving student's Chinese proficiency by equipping students with basic linguistic knowledge and developing their sensitivity to the differences between English and Chinese. He strives to make language learning an interesting and relatable experience for all students.

 

Gillian Low

Subjects: Geography, History, Language & Literature and Environmental Systems & Societies

Gillian graduated from SJI International and is matriculating to NUS Law. As a student with a strong passion in Humanities and English, she focuses on developing learning methods for her students, providing them with higher level conceptual understanding that goes beyond pure memorisation and regurgitation. She understands the struggles that IB students face and goes beyond her call of duty to help students think and write critically, making learning more effective.

 

Xavier Chan

Subject: Biology

Xavier graduated with a Bachelor of Science B.Sc. (Hons) (Highest Distinction) in NUS Life Sciences and a minor in Forensic Science. He obtained A+ grades for majority of the Advanced level biology modules and is deeply passionate about the subject. He hopes to impart his knowledge and guide students on ways to navigate and learn biology effectively.

During his time at NUS, Xavier was also a Head Teaching Assistant of the “Learning to Learn Better” module, where he guided many undergraduates on ways to tailor their study habits to learn more efficiently. He is a committed tutor who strives to ensure that his students perform to the best of their abilities.

 

Devendra Neupane

Subjects: Physics and Math

Devendra graduated from Yale-NUS College with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physics and has been working in physics research at the NUS Center for Advanced 2D Materials and Graphene Research. He has more than 2 years of teaching experience in Physics and Mathematics. Devendra adopts a hands-on approach through the use of visual aids to help students connect abstract concepts to real-life situations so that they can learn better and retain critical content longer.

 

Sean Ang

Subjects: Business Management

Sean graduated from NUS with a double degree in Biomedical Engineering and Entrepreneurship, where he was a Teaching Assistant (TA) for 3 years with NUS Engineering Faculty's Innovation & Design Program, teaching venture creation, business & operations management. Sean aspires to help students better understand complex concepts through hands-on experiential learning that is informed by real-world used cases, helping students realize the actionable impact of their learnings. He hopes that they will be inspired to inculcate the entrepreneurial skills and business management concepts taught in class and bring them into the real world.

 

Mia Harrison

Subjects: English Language & Literature, History

Mia is a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) graduate from NUS Global Studies (class of 2020) and alumni of SOTA (class of 2015). She specialises in English and History, and has been tutoring since 2017. Mia believes in co-constructing learning with the students themselves, such that both their academic needs and personal interests are met. This helps develop critical thinking and ultimately seeds a deeper interest in the subject. She also draws references to real-world situations and personal experiences for students to better identify and relate to concepts.

 

Hup Jun Jie

Subjects: Physics

Jun Jie is currently studying at Yong Pung How School of Law at SMU. Having graduated from ACS(I), he understands the rigours of the syllabus and is equipped to help students understand any problems they may face with all aspects of the IB Programme. He has a strong interest in Physics and has been tutoring for 4 years which allows him to paint an intriguing picture making studying captivating and exciting.

 
 

Xu Kuang

Subjects: Physics and Chemistry

Xu Kuang is a Natural Sciences undergraduate at the University of Cambridge, specialising in Pharmacology. He is a dedicated teacher that instills confidence in students. Not only is he knowledgable, but he is also able to inculcate Physics and Chemistry concepts with ease. He believes in helping students visualise diagrams and to see concepts from a different perspective. He carefully examines the level of understanding and concept errors in class, thereby adjusting his teaching to cater to each student. Outside of tutoring, he is both an ACE certified personal trainer and an ABRSM certified guitarist.

 

Sean Wei

Subjects: Physics and Math

Sean Wei graduated from SJI International specializing in Physics and Mathematics. He adopts a fundamental and intuitive approach to learning Physics and Math, allowing his students to hone their problem-solving skills and improve their ability to tackle a variety of questions. He helps students appreciate the underlying principles, making learning easier and more enjoyable.

 

Gautam Rajulu

Subjects: Computer Science

Gautam graduated from NUS School of Computing with a Bachelor of Computing in Information Security and is currently working as a project consultant. He believes that a strong foundation is necessary for all students, something that is often overlooked in computing. With the basics comes the confidence to tackle harder problems. Gautam also believes that where possible, students should be exposed to how the real world behaves and hopes to share his experiences in the industry with his students.

 

Alex Teng

Subjects: Economics HL, Economics SL Mathematics HL, Mathematics SL

Alex graduated from Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) and is an incoming undergraduate at the University of Cambridge, majoring in economics. He specialises in tutoring Economics and Mathematics, developing his students' skills in effective studying techniques and exam skills. He was awarded the outstanding contribution in his school's economics peer mentorship program and has experience tutoring at the IB level for these subjects. With a zeal for learning and a patient outlook, his passion for mentoring will undoubtedly inculcate a greater love for learning in his students.

 

Lily Lihong

Subjects: Chinese

Lily graduated from Anhui Normal University with a degree in Chinese Linguistics. She is an experienced teacher of close to 25 years and has taught students from mainstream neighborhood schools and international schools like Etonhouse (Broadrick).

She is also well equipped with learning strategies and tools to help children with difficulties in learning. Having taken the “WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education - Chinese studies” course in Asian International College, she has an in-depth understanding of how learning works and is able to adapt her teaching methodology to help IB students struggling to conquer the Chinese paper.

 

Nicholas Cheok

Subjects: SL / HL Chemistry

Nicholas chose to teach chemistry because he has a deep passion for the subject and enjoyed studying it. He hopes to instill the same joy of learning chemistry in his students through his lessons.

Nicholas utilizes a framework of Understanding, Precision, and Engagement. His lessons are conducted in such a way that students can fundamentally understand the mechanisms of every chemical reaction. Additionally, the students will learn answering techniques, as Nicholas believes that being equipped with chemistry knowledge alone is insufficient, and students must answer questions accurately to excel. Lastly, Nicholas's lessons are fun and interactive, where students are encouraged to exercise their critical thinking skills and clear their queries.

 

Jay Hoo Jia Kai

Subjects: Mathematics AA HL, Mathematics AA SL, Mathematics AI HL, Mathematics AI SL, O Levels A Math, O Levels E Math

Jay is a 2nd year Data Science and Economics student from NUS. He graduated from ACJC with 5 distinctions, with distinctions in Math, Economics, Chemistry, and Biology. Currently, he specializes in teaching Mathematics. He focuses on making the learning environment fun and as enjoyable for the students, so they can enjoy the spirit of learning in the competitive culture of Singapore. He intends to make students enjoy the love of learning, and also how to be better people in both academics and elsewhere in the 21st century.
